Early rose
I caught this Zepherine Drouhin yesterday morning, at her freshest. After last night's huge wind, it's looking a bit frazzled. (But photos are forever, right?) The wind took off our porch roof, too--ten panels of corrogated sheet metal. The repair job is more than Bill wants to think about right now, but it will have to be done, and soon, too. The sun on that side of the house can be pretty fierce. The wind kept us awake all night, so we're pretty groggy this morning.
I'm blogging over at Zanthan Gardens today. Bring your coffee and a doughnut (China prefers lemon cream) and join us. Oh, and there's still time to enter several of the drawings--they're open for three days from the date of the posting. Check them out on the calendar.
Reading note. Joys come from simple and natural things, mists over meadows, sunlight onleaves, the path of the moon over water. Even rain and wind and stormy clouds bring joy, just as knowing animals and flowers and where they live. Such things are where you find them, and belong to the aware and alive.--Sigurd Olson, Open Horizons

Hmm So beautiful flower.. Its so sad that wind didnt allow that beautiful rose to stay on. But yes definately the beautiful memory of its will last forever & also spread acroos the world through this blog..just like the frangnance of that rose.
Thanks for sharing such a beauty.

And a beautiful rose it is! Yall must've had more wind there than we did. I lost a small limb that was probably ready to fall anyway but that was it.

Our dogwoods started blooming yesterday here in SW VA and the azaleas are ready to burst.
The blog has been wonderful.
I just finished Nightshade and frankly, I think it's the best one yet. I don't know if it's because McQuaid was included more or if it's because you just keep getting better (probably both). I can't wait to see what's going to happen with Caitlin--I know we're going to see more of her--too many loose ends.
One question: Is it pronounced McCade or McKwade? Thanks.

Here in Kerrville, we escaped much of the storm, some badly needed rain fell on us however. The following dryer air is much appreciated although I know we're in for the humidity soon. At least the rain washed some of the oak pollen out, such a misery that brings to many of us.

Wow--what a beautiful picture. Your rose stood her ground to those high winds! We had some pretty bad storms last night in my area too. My flowers look ok, just a little bewildered. The storms took them by surprise, but I think the rains made them pretty happy.

Mercy! We had wind, too, and the world was white again this morning (will the snow never end?), but the porch is still intact. Hope your new roof didn't get damaged, too.
